City Board Descriptions
Board of Adjustment and Appeals
The Board of Adjustment and Appeals considers requests for variances
to our adopted building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and gas codes.
Meetings are scheduled as needed. City residency is not required.

Cemetery Advisory Committee
The Cemetery Advisory Committee offers suggestions and recommendations
regarding the operation of the Sanford Municipal Cemetery. The Committee
also recommends overall cemetery projects to the City Commission.
Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of January,
April, July and October at 3:30 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Central Examining Board
The Central Examining Board examines and determines qualifications
of all applicants for licenses and certificates of competency for
various types of contractors' and builders' trades. The Boars also
recommends new codes and regulations to the City Commission

Citizen's Advisory Board
The Citizen's Advisory Board presents suggestions and recommendations to the
Police Chief and City Commission regarding law enforcement needs and resources.
Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday
of each month at 7:00 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Civil Service Board
The Civil Service Board makes rules for promotions, appointments,
probationary employment periods, and removals in accordance with
the Civil Service Act; and hears appeals of dismissal, suspension
or demotion from employees, and may affirm or reverse that action.
Meetings are generally held, if needed, on the last Tuesday of each month,
at 6:00 P.M..
Seminole County residency is required.

Community Development Block Grant
Georgetown Citizens' Advisory Council
Goldsboro Citizens' Advisory Council
The members of the Citizens' Advisory Councils act as citizen
advocates, and provide counsel and advice to the City Commission
and to the Department of Community Development Administrative Staff
regarding the CDBG program.
City residency is not required.

Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA)
The CRA is the redevelopment agency authorized to carry out
the redevelopment of the areas designated as the Lake Monroe Waterfront
and Downtown Sanford Community Redevelopment Area and the
Seminole Towne Center Community Redevelopment Area.
Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month
at 4:00 P.M. in the City Manager's conference room.

Firefighters' Retirement System Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is an independent entity established
by State law, City Charter and Local Ordinance. The Board of
Trustees acts as the fiduciary of the Firefighters' Retirement
Fund, thus defraying the reasonable expenses of administering
the Plan.
Meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of February,
May, August and November, or more frequently as needed.
City residency is required for two (2) members appointed
by the City Commission.

Historic Preservation Board
The Historic Preservation Board oversees Sanford's historic
commercial district, which was established in 1985, and the
residential historic district, which was established in 1993.
The board promotes the educational, cultural, and economic
welfare of the City by preserving and protecting visible
reminders of the history and cultural heritage of the City,
State, and Country as well as by encouraging new developments
that will be harmonious with the existing historic area.
The board meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month
at 5:30 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Human Relations Advisory Board
Subcommittee - The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee plans, raises funds
for, and then holds the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration
in the City of Sanford.
Meetings are held on the 2nd> Tuesday of each month at 6:30 P.M.
Seminole County residency is required.

Nuisance Abatement Board
The Nuisance Abatement Board hears complaints of public nuisances
relating to drugs, prostitution and youth and street gang activity.
It provides for disposition of complaints and remedies, provides for
violations/notices, provides for enforcement procedures and hearings,
and provides legal counsel.
Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday f each month at 6:30 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission acts as the Local Planning Agency
and Land Development Regulation Commission. It recommends to the City
Commission all plats, planned developments, and the boundaries of all
zoning districts. The Planning and Zoning Commission reviews, and
approves or disapproves all site plans and most conditional uses.
It develops and recommends all development regulations and the
Comprehensive Plan.
The Commission meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month.
City residency is not required.

Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC)
Out PERC is one of eight local Mini-PERCS whose primary
focus is to hear and arbitrate labor-related grievances
and disputes involving City employees.
Meetings are scheduled as needed.

Sanford Airport Authority
The Sanford Airport Authority is responsible for the
Orlando-Sanford Airport air navigation needs, and for the
development, construction, operation and maintenance of the
airport and related facilities, and it encourages industry
to locate on the airport.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8:30 A.M.
Seminole County residency is required.

Sanford Housing Authority
The Sanford Housing Authority is a public body to acquire, lease and operate
housing projects; to provide for the construction, reconstruction,
improvement, alteration or repair of any project; to investigate the living,
dwelling and housing conditions and the means and methods of
improving such conditions.
Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 A.M.
City residency is not required.

Sanford Museum Advisory Board
(Formerly Henry Shelton Sanford Memorial Library and Museum Board)
The Sanford Museum Advisory Board is empowered and directed to
recommend, on behalf of the City, ways and means of acquiring and
providing for the security, safekeeping, and display of antiques,
books, papers, paintings, and other similar possessions of the late
General Henry Shelton Sanford, the founder of the City of Sanford,
Florida, together with any other memorabilia or artifacts of
historic significance to the City and the surrounding area which in the
opinion of the Board would be of interest to the citizens of the City
now and in the future.
Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of March,
June, September and December at 5:15 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Scenic Improvement Board
The Scenic Improvement Board studies beautification and the
preservation of natural beauty, advises and consults the
City Commission and the City manager, and recommends
beautification projects. It also receives suggestions and
petitions from citizens, works with clubs, agencies and
other organizations regarding beautification, conservation of
natural beauty and related subjects.
Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 4:00 P.M.
City residency is not required.

Waterfront Master Plan Steering Committee
The Committee considers, recommends, initiates and reviews programs
and projects relating to the enhancement of the Lake Monroe Waterfront.
In addition, the Committee serves as the official advisory committee
to the City of Sanford Redevelopment Agency (CRA).
Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4:00 P.M.
City residency is not required.
