On August 28, 2018, the City of Sanford will hold a Regular election in which the voters will elect City Commissioner's in District 1 & 2, as well as a Mayor.  Possible Charter Amendments may also be included on this ballot (more information to follow on Charter Amendment(s))  The Regular Municipal election of the City will be held simultaneously with the State Primary Election of each election year and a run-off election, if necessary, will be held simultaneously with the State General Election of each election year after qualification is completed and after consultation with the Seminole County Supervisor of Elections.

All candidates and elected members of the City Commission must be a resident of and a qualified elector, not a convicted felon whose civil rights have not been restored, in the City of Sanford. In addition, candidates for Commissioner and elected Commissioners must also be a resident in the district in which the candidate runs for Commission office.

To qualify to run for Mayor or for City Commissioner, complete and file the following forms with the City Clerk and pay the fees. Forms are available on the Election Links to Forms tab.

• Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository for Candidates [Form DS-DE 9]; then open Campaign Account. The candidate may designate himself as his Campaign Treasurer or Deputy Treasurer.
• Affidavit of Residency. Documentation of residency is also required.

• Statement of Financial Interests [FORM 1] - For further information, see Instructions Sheet with Form 1.
• Pay qualifying fee by check drawn on Campaign Account:
o Mayor: $540 (City $450 and State Election Assessment $90)
o Commissioner: $450 (City $375 and State Election Assessment $75)
o Candidates qualifying by Petition submit Certification of having obtained a sufficient number of qualified signatures and pay State Election Assessment
o Write-in Candidates pay no fees

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary forms, fees and documents are complete and filed during the qualifying period. No forms, fees or documents required for qualifying, or additions, revisions, substitutions, etc. will be accepted after the close of qualifying.

NOTE: Before a person may accept campaign contributions, they must first file an Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository form with the City Clerk, and then open a Campaign Account. They may do this at any time. They are then subject to the laws governing candidates, as described in Chapter 106, Florida Statutes, and in the Candidate and Campaign Treasurer Handbook.
