Above is a picture of several firemen with the department's 1921 American
LaFrance Fire Engine. This truck remained a front line pumper until 1957, when
after almost 40 years, it was retired. The Sanford Fire Department recently
re-aquired this vehicle and is in the process of refurbishing. Below is a
picture of our truck in progress. The vehicle was re-acquired in 1996 and has since been refurbished. Now used in local parades and funerals as well.
The paint and body work was done courtesy of the Seminole High School automotive
body shop class. The original engine was rebuilt by retired Battalion Chief
Mike Hoening.

Although we currently have the department officially established in 1879, the
Sanford Fire Department has documented dates back to 1873. We currently run 3
shifts, working 24 hours on; 48 hours off, manning 3 stations.
In memory of our Brother Firefighters who died "In The Line of Duty" while
protecting the lives and property of our city.
