Sentenced to LIFE IN PRISON with No Possibility of Parole


Raymond Elmore received a Life prison sentence on January 20th, 2010, in Seminole County, Florida.

Raymond Elmore, although a mere 21 years old has been in and out of the judicial system since he was a juvenile. With over 45 Law Enforcement contacts since 2004, Raymond Elmore was very familiar to the Officers in Sanford. In 2008, at the age of 19, Mr. Elmore was convicted of Robbery and was sentenced to a prison term of 1 ½ years. Mr. Elmore served just less than 6 months in prison and on September 6th, 2008 was released back into society, at which time he returned to Sanford, FL. By November 2008, Mr. Elmore was once again arrested for Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Sell by the Sanford Police Department Street Crimes Unit.

On July 9th, 2009 Officers met with the victim at the Sanford Police Department in reference to a robbery that had taken place. The victim indicated that approximately 1 month earlier he had been robbed at gunpoint during a card game by a known suspect, " Raymond".

The victim advised he exited the barber shop located in the area of West 13th Street and Olive Avenue where he encountered "Raymond". The victim inquired of "Raymond" if he wanted to gamble. The victim and "Raymond" agreed to play cards and returned to the victim's residence.

The victim stated after "Raymond" lost the first game to him, "Raymond" pulled out a large revolver that had been concealed in his shorts. The victim indicated that "Raymond" put the gun to his head stating "I will kill you if you don't give me this money". The victim indicated that he raked the money with his hand scattering it about. The victim stated after "Raymond" collected all the money, he cocked back the hammer of the revolver still pointing it at his head. "Raymond" ordered the victim to take his shorts off and go inside the residence. The victim reported that "Raymond" robbed him of approximately $3700.00. A neighbor of the victim witnessed the entire incident and corroborated the victim's statement.

The true identity of the suspect was confirmed to be Raymond Elmore. On July 16th, 2009 Raymond Elmore was apprehended and transported to the Seminole County jail, where he remained until his trial.

The 18th Circuit State Attorney's Office Career Criminal Unit offered Raymond Elmore a plea, for 15 years mandatory prison, day for day; which Mr. Elmore declined. Mr. Elmore decided to take his chances with a trial thinking he could beat the charge.

On December 17th, 2009 Raymond Elmore entered the Seminole County courthouse where he appeared before Judge Marlene Alva and a jury of his peers. After a brief trial, Mr. Elmore was found guilty as charged, for the crime of Robbery with a Weapon.

On January 20th, 2010, Raymond Elmore was sentenced to LIFE IN PRISON WITH NO POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE for the charge of Robbery with a Weapon. Mr. Elmore was sentenced as a Prison Releasee Reoffender.

The Sanford Police Department is proud to announce to the citizens and visitors of Sanford that we have once again removed a dangerous career criminal from our streets...with more to come! Raymond Elmore is the third criminal convicted under the Sanford Police Departments Criminal Repeat Offender Program.
