New Public Works Project
NEW PROJECT - Park Avenue Stormwater Pond and Educational Park
Work has begun at the Park Avenue Stormwater Park site. Masci General Contractors will be clearing the site for the next 3 – 4 weeks.
Beginning January 15, Park Avenue will be closed between 25th Street and 24th Street for 10 days to install sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
The City plans to construct a stormwater retention pond on the west side of Park Avenue between West 24th Street and State Road 46 (25th Street). The new pond per NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) requirements, will help reduce nutrient levels from the stormwater run-off that is collected before it reaches Lake Monroe.
The new pond will also be a park location to include educational components describing pollution control and a "baffle" box with a clear lid - a structure that allows you to see how nutrients and solids are separated.
The new Stormwater Park will also have new trees, a lighted fountain, lighting, sidewalks, benches, and parallel parking on Park Avenue.
This is an estimated $1.2 million project funded by Stormwater fees.
The project is estimated to be complete by Mid-August.
