The City of Sanford Public Art Commission is accepting submissions for art on loan to be shown in the City Commission Chambers, City Hall Lobby and other potential locations at Sanford City Hall.

Proposal

To encourage and promote art within the City of Sanford, the Public Art Commission has initiated the Art in Chambers program, which allows a venue for artists to display their works on a rotating basis at City Hall. A minimum of 3 to 4 rotating exhibits will be on display at City Hall throughout each calendar year.

Eligibility

The project is open to all artists. All mediums are accepted.

Submission Requirements & Details

Artists are invited to submit multiple examples of original artwork in digital format for exhibit consideration. Artwork must be framed or gallery wrapped and able to be wire hung. The artwork shall not contain advertising, religious, sexual, violent, political or other content unsuitable for a public work of art. Artists are responsible for delivery of the artwork. Exhibit scheduling will be determined based on availability and artist selection. Opening receptions will be held for each exhibit.

Submission: Artists are encouraged to contact the Public Art Commission staff liaison with any questions prior to submittal (Sabreena.Colbert@Sanfordfl.gov). All submissions shall include the following:

  1. Cover Letter: including Artist’s Name, address, email address, telephone number, as well as a statement of interest, brief description of the artwork and exhibit availability/schedule.

  2. Image List: including the title, size, and medium.

  3. Image Files: image files of original pieces included in exhibit.

  4. All submissions shall be titled in the format as follows:  lastname.firstname.title

  5. Acceptable file formats include PDF, JPG or TIFF.

SANFORD WRAPS

UTILITY BOX WRAP PROJECT

The City of Sanford Public Art Commission is accepting submissions for the utility box wrap project.

Proposal

To enhance the urban environment and further the tourism and economic potential, the City of Sanford requests submissions for art to transform ordinary infrastructure into public works of art. Currently, the project area includes eighteen (18) utility boxes including boxes within the City’s Downtown Redevelopment Area and one box on Historic Goldsboro Boulevard in the historic Goldsboro community.

Eligibility

The project is open to all artists, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, and other creative individuals.

Selection Process & Award

The City of Sanford Public Art Commission will make selections based on creativity, diversity and appropriateness. Selected artists will receive a stipend of $200 for their digital work and will receive source recognition on the box. Each artist retains all copyrights to their submitted images. All selected works to be wrapped on a utility box grant the City of Sanford rights to use the image for promoting the artist, the utility box art program and the City of Sanford through marketing material.

Submission Requirements & Details

Artists are invited to submit up to four (4) new or existing original pieces for consideration. Original digital artwork will be accepted for this project. Artists may incorporate local themes and history and designs may be landscapes, pictorial, whimsical, abstract, etc. The artwork shall not contain advertising, religious, sexual, violent, political or other content unsuitable for a public work of art. Artists are not responsible for fabrication or installation of the vinyl wrap on the box.

Files: Each utility box has different dimensions and this call includes a variety of sizes and shapes of boxes. Artists may be asked to re-fit or re-size artwork for the selected box. Due to the enlargement process for printing, files submitted shall be high resolution (1200 dpi minimum). Acceptable file formats include PDF, JPG or TIFF.

Image Title: All submissions shall be titled in the format as follows:  lastname.firstname.title

Submission: Artists are encouraged to contact the Public Arts Commission staff liaison with any questions prior to submittal (Sabreena.Colbert@Sanfordfl.gov). All submissions shall include the following:

  1. Cover Letter: including Artist’s Name, address, email address, telephone number, as well as a statement of interest and brief description of the artwork. One page maximum, standard type.   
  2. Image List: including the title, size, and media of the artwork.      
  3. Image Files: up to four (4) pieces per artist may be considered.
